Education Building

Housed staff of Psychology Department until such time as Comparative Behavior Laboratory and Todd Hall Addition were completed. Until early 1960s it also housed College of Education as "Old Education Building." Built in 1942 the structure served as a dispensary at the U.S. Navyäó»s Farragut Training Station at Lake Pend Oreille, near Sandpoint, Idaho. It was acquired as surplus property from the government in 1947, cut into sections and moved to Pullman and re-erected on its site on the north side of Washington Street, between Nevada and Idaho streets on the south side of the campus. It opened in February, 1948. It was to have been temporary, a structure to help the university cope with the post-war bulge of GIäó»s returning to school. It was demolished in 1974.

2. Education Building, 1948 A one-story, temporary building of frame construction. It has a partial basement and is heated by steam heat from the Central Heating Plant. There are 27 offices, 10 classrooms, 5 laboratories, and 2 projection rooms in the building. Overall dimensions are 216' x 76' and floor area totals 11,416 square feet. The building is "E" shaped. Completion Date: February 1948 Cost $6,450 Source of funds: State of Washington Remarks: Cost included site preparation, utility construction, and finishing of partial basement. F.W.A. moved building from Farragut, Idaho, and re-erected it on its present site.
