American Loggers in the Gilded Age
Logging was a very important industry in the pacific northwest at the turn of the 20th century, and logging would grow to become one of the most influential industries that Washington state had. With logging being so important, naturally it employed many people and these people had to endure some of the most deadly working conditions ever. However between 1900 and 1930 many new technologies were brought into logging with some of them helping safety standards and some of them causing more damage. The chainsaw, steam donkey and log truck are the notable mentions of the period. The chainsaw replaced the crosscut saw, the log truck replaced horse and ox and the steam donkey helped to replace animals as well.
