PGA vs LPGA
Are women paid proportionally to men in professional golf?
For the purpose of this research question, we must first define our terms: proportional compensation, professional golf.In alignment with my research team, we will continue to use the guidelines set fourth for proportionality in pay for individual sports – a different measurement and standard of proportionality will be used for team sports. Proportional pay for individual sports will be defined as such:
- The female player shall earn equal pay to her male counterpart for accomplishing the same level of achievement in her respective league and sport.
- Example: If a man on the PGA tour wins the US Open, it would be proportional compensation for the LPGA to award the same prize money for the female US Open victor.
For the game of golf, we will define professional as competitive play in the following leagues: PGA (men), LPGA (women).
