Gender Pay Gap in Sports

Post Title IX

Title IX resulted in coed physical education. The idea of coed activities in today’s world is commonplace and we often take it for granted. In college, there are intramurals, coed physical education classes, and a mixture of coed and sex segregated sports such as women’s and men’s basketball. At Washington State University there is a women’s soccer team but no men’s soccer team which is interesting to note since pre-Title IX, men’s sports dominated the playing field. This indicates the change in thought about women’s involvement in sports.

Additionally, scholarships were offered to both genders and equipment was made equally accessible to both genders (Ware 51). Budgets were proportioned more fairly based on the size of teams instead of the former method of giving men’s teams the majority of the allotted budget. Title IX regulations in 1975 helped give the law force and broad recognition (Ware 62). In general, Title IX helped women stand together to fight a common cause and that allowed them to find greater opportunities both in the real world and athletically.
