Beta Theta Pi: National Fraternity

The Men of Principle Initiative

Those who created the fraternity did so with the mission of developing "principled men for a principled life", through the advocation and implementation of strategic priorities that include brotherhood, personal growth, and a sense of home.

However, by 1998, a variety of Beta chapters across the nation were failing to complete this mission. Many chapters were in a state of disarray in terms of their academics, risk management, housing structure, recruitment, public relations, alumni involvement, and various other important institutions that defined a benevolent fraternity experience.

To remedy these problems, the national board of Beta Theta Pi implemented the Men of Principle Initiative. This pushed an updated set of values among each chapter, as well as requiring every chapter to meet a set of four requirements.
1. Installment of a five-person advisory team for each chapter.
2. Alcohol-free recruitment ("dry" recruitment).
3. Elimination of the previously-used rogue national test.
4. Creation of a 100% hazing-free pledge experience.
