Caires Peace Garden was dedicated in 1997 in honor of Leona Caires, the mother of Matt Caires, who graduated from WSU in 1997. She passed away on February 2, 1996 as the result of a school shooting at Frontier Junior High School at Moses Lakes, Washington.
