Pioneer Theatre
Even when we were at the mission we came to town. In the 1940s then Aboriginal people, we didn't stay in town, but on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday they would bring in kids and old people from Phillip Creek Mission on a truck. We went to the theatre. They showed Westerns, like John Wayne movies. They had the big movie posters outside. There was a ticket box near the door. We waited to get in. The missionaries gave us money to get in and to buy a lollie, or homemade pies, meat pies and soft drinks, local ones.
The floor was cement. There were rows of chairs, but some people sat on the floor on blankets. It had a tin roof, so when it rained it was very loud and sometimes the rain came in. People just stayed there. Kids might cry and run around. Then after, we might do some shopping before we went back to the mission.
