Pankurrpankurr (Banka Banka Station)
‘There used to be seven houses here and that old school we went there. We used to go from school, when we would leave school and go back behind where that water hole is, Kajunpura. Me, my sister and other kids, we'd go for a swim then and get bush potato, manaji. If old people was looking for us they knew we'd be back there.’
--P. Frank Narrurlu at BB Station, 2002.
‘Mrs. Ward manages the station and the affairs of her Aboriginal employees very efficiently although she herself is an elderly woman. She is genuinely attached to her employees but her attitude towards them is completely paternal irrespective of their age…A pleasing aspect reported by the Patrol Officer is the complete absence of dogs at this station. Mrs. Ward is very firm on this matter and it is obvious that the ‘dogless’ Banka Aborigines suffer from no resultant stress.’
--District Welfare Officer, J.A. Cooke 1964.
