From Wharton to McClure's to Appleton to Macmillan: Journey of "Summer" from Manuscript to Print

Acknowledgement

I am very grateful to Dr. Donna Campbell for guiding me throughout the process of creating this project. She also shared study materials with me that include the First American Edition, the First American Edition with Wharton's corrections, and a collection of McClure's Magazine that includes four installments of Summer (from May 1917-August 1917).

I am extremely grateful to the staff of Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library for being so generous in sending me the scanned pdfs of the incomplete holograph manuscript of Edith Wharton’s Summer

I am also grateful to Matthew Kollmer, a fellow graduate student, who provided feedback on my project when I presented this Scalar book in Dr. Donna Campbell’s Fall 2020 class––“ENGL 573: Editing in a Digital Age.”

Finally, I am grateful to my fellow graduate students from Dr. Donna Campbell's Fall 2020 class (ENGL 573: Editing in a Digital Age). Our group discussions on Edith Wharton’s Summer provided me with valuable insights that helped me explore various viewpoints on this novel.
